Nationwide plan or nationwide ban? Those LLMs are not scary monsters, and when downloaded locally, they do not "call home". They are data files with coefficients and weights, not very different from CSV files. What makes them run live is separate, open source, software which is American, by the way. You can view its source code. You can install it locally inside the firewall and if you wish, block internet access.
So the question is - as they say in Asia, 可以不可以 ? Can or cannot? Do you dare or not?
"Believe what we tell you, not your own... + continue reading

Anyone developing predictive models with Keras with a Tensorflow backend will sooner or later want to demonstrate them - to their research group, company colleagues, customers. It is a chance to get your efforts recognized, prove a hypothesis, and move research forward. Sounds great, right?
But there awaits a surprise. It's nearly impossible to rebuild the same model again. Like a cloud of mist, you never get exactly the same trained model weights twice. They vary quite a bit whenever anyone attempts to reproduce your calculation, undermining... + continue reading

Over the years we have been fortunate to work with our clients on projects big and small, across the entire drug R&D continuum, from early discovery to human trials, on three continents. Some projects involved extremely valuable (i.e. expensive to lose and therefore high-value) data. All projects were important to us and of course (as we always are told) all really useful data workflows must be low-maintenance. A holy grail of sorts.
So we set out in pursuit of this holy grail of high value and low maintenance. It is not a purely... + continue reading

Nowadays ML and AI are so much talked about in life sciences R&D, it even makes sense to include them as keywords in a project proposal to help oneself get funded more easily. Trade magazines publish success stories. Conference talks promise new insights into hard-to-crack problems. Vendors offer specialized hardware that can do image analysis at scale. Be honest, did you think of maybe applying some of those new approaches to your work?
We at Saber Informatics suggest that you should! However, based on our recent work with a client... + continue reading

Stability of Screening Assays
It is important to maintain consistent data quality when screening results are uploaded to an assay registration system for use by the rest of the R&D organization. Screeners run assay stability controls, reference compounds, plate controls, and apply other techniques to perform data normalization and compute QC metrics within an experiment. However, for assays that are in use for more than a few days another aspect of assay stability comes into play. Assay stability over time - weeks or months... + continue reading

Quality over Quantity
With every passing year we at Saber Informatics are seeing increasing demand for managing the quality (not quantity) of data generated and collected in preclinical life science labs and in clinical research.
While it is a commonly repeated maxim that "big data" is changing the way we work, attention to data quality in small but complex datasets ensures the continuity of pharmaceutical research. Without attention to quality there is no confidence in results, therefore no regulatory approval. This explains the... + continue reading

Future Now
Report pages generated with the semantic ui components have a sleek, subtle, stylishly flat, understated look that helps deliver a light and pleasant user experience. The components make world-class HTML5 reporting provided by semantic and jquery available in Pipeline Pilot.
Reports
Drag to rearrange components in pipeline pilot to change report layout. Set component parameter values to specify exactly how the content will be shown (e.g. size, color, appearance). The resulting HTML reports will automatically adjust and... + continue reading

Saber Informatics is excited to announce the release of an Excel Automation component collection for Pipeline Pilot.
The collection contains drag-and-drop components for reading, updating, and manipulating existing Excel files. Access any cell on a worksheet directly as you would in Excel itself, regardless of file complexity or layout. Preserve all existing file formatting, values and attributes of all other cells, formulas, and macros.
Extract only some specific data from a worksheet with very complex formatting and/or multiple... + continue reading

At the upcoming Biovia Pipeline Pilot user forum in Boston our customer Forma Therapeutics will be presenting our successful experiences using Pipeline Pilot in a recent project. Saber was engaged by Forma to build and deploy company-wide a web application to search assay and chemistry data.
The resulting application has been deployed to production since the end of 2014 and is now an integral part of the Forma research IT infrastructure. A key to success has been our agile approach to design and development, where usage logs that were... + continue reading
